Idaho Volunteers Needed

Hi guys I would like to invite you to come out to the 2010 Idaho Rally based out of Boise, ID this year!

The entry is open for competitors and volunteers. This event can’t happen without a LOT of volunteers so if you would like to get involved please head over to www.idahorally.com and sign up as a volunteer.

This year is going to be huge. We have a Rally Portugal style Super Special Stage planned complete with an over under bridge as well as 144 stage miles!! You can pick what day you would like to help out. You don’t have to work all three days and you would be doing stuff like being a Road Marshall or helping out with Timing. Talk to anyone that’s been a volunteer before and they will tell you that typically you will get a better spot to watch from as a Marshall then you would as a spectator. Also you will get to meet the teams and get an inside look at how a rally is run. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask!

Superchips Sponsorship

Just before the last SEMA Show I was given the opportunity to test out the Superchips Flashpaq on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  After talking a bit with Brian Fletcher, the company’s resident marketing guru, I received the Flashpaq 3875 in the mail a few days later. My results were phenomenal to say the least.

The very first feature I played with was speedometer correction.  I was able to fine tune my speedo using my GPS and immediately noticed improved shift timing, and fuel mileage.

Next, I started playing with the fun stuff; the power settings.

  • The towing tune had some interesting shifting behavior; very ideal for that kind of use as it liked to carry more RPM’s on hills and down shifted much more aggressively.
  • The 87 octane tune gave a slight power increase and complimented the exhaust and intake mods quite nicely.  The firmer shifts were also very nice.
  • The 91 performance tune was a real treat.  That 4.7L V8 really liked the more aggressive power.  The gain was very noticeable, to the point I had to take it away from myself.  The extra power gave me a happy right foot and I was going broke buying fuel.  Coincidentally though, when I could behave…I could get over 20mpg on the highway.

Conclusion: The new Flashpaqs are awesome and worth every penny.  If you’ve thought about getting one for your rig, stop thinking and start ordering.

Special Thanks to: Superchips & Brian Fletcher

Memorial Day Wishes

Happy Memorial Day!The Northwest Rally E-Crew would like to extend our best wishes to you and yours on this holiday. Memorial Day is for us to offer tribute and honor the heroes who laid down their lives to preserve our freedom. If you know someone whose friend/ family member has performed this ultimate act of heroism, wish him/ her with a special message on Memorial Day. Memorial Day is also an event when we can gather with friends and family and reach out with a warm wish.

The History Memorial Day
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service.[1] First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I to honor dead Americans from all wars.

The Crew Heads to Idaho

With the 2010 well under way in the Northwest, we’ve already compeleted 3 events.   Starting out in March with the DooWops Rally, we’ve quickly moved into April and May and had some extremely great events.

We are happy to announce that this July we will attend our second running of the Idaho Rally in Boise, Idaho. We are happy to join Jens and his team again to run one of the best rally races we’ve ever been to.

Check out http://www.idahorally.com for more information on the event.  Below are some of the event photos we took from the 2009 race.

Dave Mirra Gets Swept

At nearly the same spot Ken Block rolled his #43 Ford Fiesta during the Oregon Trail Rally, we found Dave Mirra’s #40 Subaru WRX STI one running of the stage earlier.  Dave’s car landed on it’s side after a few rolls and came to a stop nearly blocking the entire road.  This was during the earliest running of the Fir Mountain stage on day 2 of the race.  Below is a video in which Dave explains what happened.

As the crew approached the car, which was by now already flipped to it’s wheels, it seemed as though the car would be unable to continue even under tow.  The suspension was folded under, all four tires were flat, and it seemed that every wheel was pointing a different direction.  Miraculously, the folded tire straightened out when we twisted the car straight onto the road.

After securing the car off the road in a straight section, the team had decided that they wanted to hike the 1/2 mile back to the start where their service crew would meet them.  At this point we notified the cars location for a driver’s bulletin and continued to Sweep the stage.

About a mile down the road, while working to recover another car, Dave and his Co-Driver passed us in their mangled Subaru crab walking the entire way.  We later found them parked at the nearest spectator area.  Photos Below.

Ken Block Gets Swept

During the Oregon Trail Rally 2010, Jeff Dietz (#992) came across Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino in car #43 who had unfortunately rolled their Monster World Rally Team Ford Fiesta about 1/2 mile into the stage.

Upon arriving on the scene, Jeff began asking the most important question of “Are you guys alright?” as the teams health is our #1 concern when we first arrive. Jeff gave Ken a sideways look when he responded “What f*!king day of the week is it?!” and shared a laugh with him when quickly added “I’m fine, I’m just kidding with you”

The sweep here was a quick one, as all we could really do for the team is right the car and send for their service crew. Below are some photos from the recovery.
